Shameless Self-Promotion Tips and Tricks

In my quest of Shameless Self-Promotion I have been spamming, oops I mean submit..no no it’s spamming, the internet with links back to my articles. I want to see how well I can promote my site using free tools and no advertising. I also want to push my content so that I will hopefully get requests to write content for other sites.

One of my methods of Shameless Self-Promotion (SSP) is to submit my RSS Feeds to FeedBurner so that in a few weeks or months my site will “on the radar” of advertisers and other content sites.

I always find it ironic that people write blog posts on “how to blog” or “how to promote your blog” and here I am with a “how to promote your blog” post.

I have also set up an account at Technorati and in just a few days the rank for linux.got.org has moved from the 450,000’s to the 380,000’s.

Technorati works by counting the number of blogs that link to your blog. So to SSP this I set gotfoo.wordpress.com , gotfoo.multiply.com as well as links between you.gotfoo.org and linux.gotfoo.org. Nothing says this is illegal because it’s not like click-fraud where I’m creating fake or zombie hits and earning cash. What I am doing is creating several entry points back to one place.

Speaking of entry points I set up accounts at del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia.com and then I create links back to my content. When creating the links you have the option to enter in some tags and what have been doing is adding the tag gotfoo.org. The more I add the more likely it will start showing up in the del.icio.us/tags page. See SSP.

I have aslo done some SSP at digg.com and reddit.com but they are not as effective as my other methods.

The thing I am finding most effective is using the built-in RSS Feeds from the Wordpress blog engine. It’s simple to turn on and you can configure the number of posts to show and weather to show a summary or the full-text. There are also a number of RSS Plugins for Wordpress for both creating and consuming feeds.
