The thing that has really been driving me nust lately is the font-sizes in Firefox on a Linux system. More specificly when I am running Knoppix or Kanotix I find that most apps look good when using KDE except for Firefox. The two problems are the font-size of the Firefox UI are too small and secondly the fonts of certian web sites like google.com were way to small.
But after doing some googling and hacking I have found a reason, a fix and a hack.
HOWTO: Install Kanotix to a Hard Drive
Every person who writes about this topic states that installing Kanotix to a HD is not recommended. It’s not recommended because of kernel upgrading issues or hard ware issues or support issues. Well I say fooey to all that noise. If you want to install Kanotix to an HD then go for it and damn the consequences.
*Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible if everything goes tits-up.

Why would I want to migrate from Windows to Linux?
This is a very good and legitimate question and the answer is different for each person. The reason that I want to migrate from Windows to Linux is for the fun of it. I need a mental challenge. Oh sure I could play Sudko all day and in the end I am flexing my brain but I get nothing tangible out of it except for scraps of paper with numbers on them. I like the mental challenge but I also like quantifiable results. I want to get something out of my effort so that I may step back and say (to myself), “look at what I have created.” This is my idea of model making or craft making and such. So like I said you may have your own reasons or you my be just like me; in search of a mental challenge.
There is another reason I am doing this and it’s political. Microsoft is releasing Vista in Jan 2007 which misses an X-Mass release date. Computer makers will not be able to sell any new PC’s with Vista during the X-Mass Shopping season. Low PC sales will hurt retailers thus causing a slight economy blip at the end of the year. Those that do buy new PC’s with XP on it will then have to fork out an extra $200 for Vista and then they violate their manufacture’s warranty.
I am sure the reasons for the delay are valid like fixing potential security issues but come on. We weren’t born yesterday and we have all learned how marketing works. People will think Vista is more secure because MSTF delayed the release in the consumer’s best interest. Oh f’ing sure. The other thing is the rumor that Vista is going to be a hardware hog. Meaning you can’t upgrade XP because your 2 y.o. PC won’t meet the minimum spec.
A few weeks ago I was shopping around for a new Linux distro and after 1.5 years away from the Linux scene I was delighted to see the variety available. For the first week I spent my time at distrowatch.com reading about all of the disrtos and seeing which ones seamed like they were fairly active. While there I also discovered all of the “LiveCD” disrtos. The last time I touched a LiveCD was Knoppix in 2002 and since then the LiveCD market has exploded. I tried them all. MEPIS 4.3, Knoppix 4.x, SLAX (Server and Deskyop) 5.0.7b and 5.1.0, SLAMPP 1.0, SLAMPP-LITE 2.0, PCLinuxOS.92, Linux From Scratch, SuSE Live and a few other less memorable ones.
